FORGE
Forge is:
A two-semester mission experience combining intensive cross-cultural training with hands-on field experience.
Students spend one semester being trained and discipled through Nextwave before transitioning into a second semester of immersive ministry experience alongside Christar.
TRAIN
Develop the spiritual, cultural and practical foundations necessary for cross-cultural ministry.
EXPERIENCE
Move beyond the classroom into meaningful, hands-on ministry alongside experienced workers.
DISCERN
Gain greater clarity about what faithful participation in the Great Commission could look like for your life.
One Year Can Change the Direction of Your Life.
You don't have to know exactly where God is calling you before taking your next step.
Forge gives young adults the opportunity to intentionally step away from their normal rhythms and spend a season growing spiritually, experiencing cross-cultural ministry and learning alongside cross-cultural workers and ministry leaders.
You'll spend your first semester building a foundation through intensive training and discipleship with Nextwave before putting what you've learned into practice through an immersive field experience with Christar.
This isn't simply a mission trip.
It's an opportunity to experience what a life on mission could look like.
Christar Gap Year
Forge is designed for young adults who are asking questions like:
- Where is God leading me next?
- Could missions be part of my future?
- What would it actually look like to live and serve cross culturally?
- How can I develop a deeper relationship with God?
- How do my gifts, interests, education and career fit into the Great Commission?
- What can I learn from workers already serving cross culturally?
Core Participant Profile:
Forge is designed primarily for young adults ages 17–25 who are ready to intentionally invest a season of their lives in spiritual formation, cross-cultural training and hands-on ministry.
Students do not need to have already decided to become career global workers.
Forge is a place to explore, experience, learn, serve and discern.
Forge may be a good fit for you if:
- You're graduating from high school or college and considering what's next.
- You're taking a gap year and want that year to have intentional purpose.
- You're interested in missions but aren't sure where or how you might serve.
- You want meaningful ministry experience before choosing a career, degree, seminary or long-term missions pathway.
- You want to grow spiritually while being challenged outside your comfort zone.
- You're willing to learn from other cultures, cross-cultural workers, mentors and fellow students.
Two Semesters. One Transformative Experience.
Forge combines intentional preparation with real-world ministry.
SEMESTER ONE:
Train in Nashville
Students spend approximately 15 weeks in Nashville, Tennessee, living in community and receiving intensive cross-cultural missions training through Nextwave.
Training includes a combination of:
- Biblical and theological foundations for mission
- Cross-cultural communication
- Diaspora ministry
- Evangelism
- Discipleship
- Spiritual formation
- Leadership development
- Missions strategy
- Cultural intelligence
- Practical ministry experience
- Mentorship
- Team development
- Hands-on engagement with international communities
Nashville's growing international population gives students the opportunity to begin practicing cross-cultural ministry before ever getting on an airplane.
SEMESTER TWO
Serve with Christar!
During your second semester, you'll move from preparation into practice by serving alongside experienced Christar workers.
You'll experience the rhythms of cross-cultural ministry firsthand while receiving mentorship and participating in meaningful ministry connected to our long-term mission of cultivating Christ-honoring transformation in communities where He is yet to be worshiped.
More Than Experience
Forge isn't simply about where you go. It's about who you're becoming along the way.
By the end of Forge, our hope is that students leave with:
A Deeper Relationship With God:
Dedicated time for discipleship, Scripture, prayer, community and ministry creates space for significant spiritual growth.
Cross-Cultural Confidence:
Learn how to listen, communicate, build relationships and minister across cultural differences.
Real Missions Experience:
Experience the realities—not just the idea—of cross-cultural ministry.
Greater Clarity About Calling:
Forge gives you the time and experiences necessary to prayerfully consider where God may be leading you next.
Practical Ministry Tools:
Develop skills in evangelism, discipleship, leadership, cultural engagement and relationship-building that can be used wherever God takes you.
Meaningful Mentorship:
Learn alongside Nextwave leaders, cross-cultural workers, ministry practitioners and your field mentors.
A Community of Peers:
Experience Forge alongside other young adults asking many of the same questions you are.
A Global Perspective:
See God's mission from a broader perspective and discover how your life, career, church and gifts can participate in it.
