Marriage is hard. Married couples serving cross-culturally experience added challenges. Derek Johnson, a psychotherapist and member care provider, joins us to talk about how living and serving across cultures affects married couples and how communication must be a major focus for all couples, whether they serve overseas or not. We learn about ways that husbands and wives can strengthen their marriages before leaving for the field, as well as strategies to help couples build unity after they arrive and while facing culture stress. Join us for some helpful tips for establishing and sustaining strong marriages.

Derek Johnson has been married to Ann-Marie for 30 years, and they have three children. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brock University and a master’s in Christian counseling from Philadelphia Biblical University. Derek has 10 years of full-time church ministry experience as a youth and family pastor and has done short-term mission trips to Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, Jordan, the Philippines, North Africa and North America. He has also been a registered psychotherapist in Ontario, Canada for the last 25 years. Derek works full time as the member care director for Christar Canada and as Christar International’s director for member care.
