 Ministry in least-reached communities is hard.

Workers serving where the gospel hasn’t yet taken hold routinely face roadblocks and opposition, and many live with the daily risks of proclaiming the good news where this message is unwelcome. Frequent transitions and finding routine in an unfamiliar culture and language add an extra layer of challenge to everyday tasks. Progress can be slow—sometimes invisible—and discouragement can easily become a constant companion.

That stress takes a toll, and isolation can magnify each struggle. But knowing they’re not alone can make all the difference—for cross-cultural workers, and in turn, for the people they’re seeking to reach with the gospel.

That’s why the Christar Member Care Network comes alongside workers and their families at every stage of ministry. Member care staff provide encouragement, resources and practical support so workers can remain healthy, resilient and effective in the places God has called them to serve.

RENEWing Workers for Thriving Ministry

RENEW, a multiday debriefing retreat hosted by the Christar U.S. Member Care Team, gives Christar workers intentional space for rest, reflection and restoration. There, they can slow down, process their experiences in community and be genuinely seen and heard by others who understand the challenges they face.

Participants are encouraged to acknowledge grief and loss, and to rejoice in the ways they’ve seen God work. They also learn tools that help them thrive long after the retreat ends.

RENEW helps workers return to their ministries refreshed, supported and strengthened for continued service.

It’s an investment not only in them but in the least-reached communities they serve.

Participate by Giving:

All Christar U.S. workers are encouraged to participate in a RENEW retreat once every four years, and your generosity will help us continue to serve them well.

Each RENEW retreat, including the program and lodging, costs approximately $600 per worker, and gifts of any size help us to continue offering this vital opportunity for care and restoration.

Participate by Praying:

• Lift up cross-cultural workers facing great challenges and discouragement. Ask God to meet them where they are through the encouragement and support of the Member Care team.
• Pray that through RENEW retreats at the CMCUS, workers on home assignment will be refreshed and equipped and that they will experience God’s love through Christar staff.
• Ask that the Member Care team would effectively provide support, resources and understanding to the workers in whom they invest, both while they’re on the field and during home assignments.
